Lucinda Boyd  River’s Edge

River’s Edge is a collection of new works by Australian artist Lucinda Boyd.   Developed from studies executed on the banks of the Shoalhaven River near Braidwood, the drawings  are pastel and conte on paper, and charcoal and graphite on paper. This exclusive selection of only 20 works will be on show at Altenburg Gallery from 5th March 2010.  Lucinda has had two sell out exhibitions at Altenburg Gallery over the past 4 years.

“Lucinda’s third exhibition, River’s Edge will run for a month closing at the end of the Easter break and is expected to once again have brisk sales....” says Altenburg’s director, Gina Oldham.

In The Australian, the editorial Value Buys for Artists you can Afford - $50,000 or less , Antony Davies states:

(David Boyd’s daughter)- Lucinda Boyd is also remarkably talented and with stunning large figurative paintings selling for under $20,000.  These will both be attractive to live with and wise investments...

Lucinda layers her work using methods she has developed over many years creating incredible depth, mood, warmth and movement in her landscapes.  Her works are hauntingly beautiful capturing the familiar reality of her local environment – her grasses wave in the breeze beside massive rock faces along the Shoalhaven River and below the twisted ancient canopy of the gums and native bushes narrow animal pathways disappear into the background and you feel you would like to follow...

Lucinda Boyd was born in England and spent her childhood travelling around Europe with her parents before returning with them to live in Australia in 1972.  In 1983 she moved to the lower Hunter Valley NSW where Lucinda began a series of landscapes working in the pastel medium.  She held her first solo exhibition in Newcastle at the Von Bertouch Galleries in 1985.  Since then she has lived and worked in a bush environment developing an individual technique with pastels.

In 1997 Lucinda moved to the Braidwood district in the Southern Highlands NSW.  The diversity of landscape, distinct seasons and the quality of light have been the inspiration for her work.  “River’s Edge has been produced from studies done at the Bombay Reserve on the Shoalhaven River near Braidwood.  This locality has provided generations of locals with a wonderful picnic and swimming area and has given Lucinda and no doubt many other artists a deep sense of the river’s tranquillity.
