Altenburg fine art gallery

Lichen Landscapes is a body of new works by Chris Kenyon exhibiting at Altenburg Gallery Braidwood NSW.  The exhibition runs from Saturday 17 April and closes Sunday 9 May 2010.

Kenyon lives and works at Berowra Waters near Sydney NSW.  To access his home and studio situated on a bushland hillside, Kenyon travels via boat over the ever changing body of water of the Hawksbury River.  The moods and reflections of the river have a profound influence on his work.

The best description of my work would be an impressionist landscape with a strong leaning towards abstraction.  Unlike most impressionists, I am more interested in structural details, not vistas.  My painting is now taking on a more rhythmical, sinuous quality culminating in a more abstract format of strength and experience, a result in the maturing of my visual language.......Chris Kenyon 2010

The artist’s palette is soft and moody and applied in a loosely layered and thatched technique.  There is a deep and reflective quality creating vague shadows and rhythms.  This allows the intimacy of the seasons to show through in his use of expansive spaces of opaque washes of earthy colours.

A prolific and sensitive Australian artist who has been exhibiting over several decades throughout the world, Chris Kenyon has a substantial number of his major works now held in hundreds of private and corporate collections internationally.
