I moved from the Isle of Mull to Braidwood in 2009.
In Mull the main focus of my work was seascapes as I lived right on the coast and my painting studio looked over the sea. I began studying weather patterns and the constantly changing cloud formations I could see from my studio. It was fascinating to watch the weather approaching the island from miles off shore. I started trying to capture the colours I was seeing in the clouds and the moment that the light changes as the weather shifts.
In Braidwood I have been painting mainly landscapes which is exciting as the colours I am using are so different. Warm earthy tones to capture the parched grass in summer and rich reds and oranges for the vivid sunrises and intense sunsets.
I tend to go cloud watching in the early morning to catch the sunrise. I find this is the best time of day to see amazing colours which often only last for a few minutes before daybreak. I love the way sunlight filters through clouds and how this creates clouds of almost every colour imaginable.
The fact that everyday brings a brand new sky is what keeps me looking and wanting to paint.
